Motorhomes for sale in the UK

Motorhomes for sale in the UK

When thinking about motorhomes for sale in the UK, spare a thought for the long and varied history of these now classic vehicles.

Should you wish to read up on motorhomes for sale in the UK Martin Watts, founder of the Classic Camper Club, recounts the history of all the Bedford based campervan and motorhome conversions, starting with the CA in 1952 right up to the Rascal in the mid 1990s in his book Bedford Camper Vans and Motorhomes: The Inside Story.

Watts has been involved with motorcaravans for forty years. He is regarded as one of the leading motorcaravan historians in the UK and today he writes a regular column for the specialist motorcaravan publication Motorcaravan, Motorhome Monthly. His two previous books, Classic Camper Vans: The Inside Story and Classic Dormobile Camper Vans [both published by Crowood] were very warmly received upon their release in 2007 and 2009 respectively, both titles gaining many excellent reviews from both the classic vehicle and motorcaravan press.

Motorhomes for sale in the UK is just the beginning of the story.

Buy to let motorhomes

Buy to let motorhomesYesterday i.e. Easter Monday had the highest ever search for the phrase ‘motorhome hire’ – which is great news for people thinking of buying ‘buy to let motorhomes.  So I wonder why this was then? Well – there are quite a lot of folk going on about ’staycations’ which I really think is a crap term for not going anywhere!

The truth is, if you can’t afford to go on holiday then you can stay at home, but it is boring and your family will hate you and call you tight! So why not do a fairly low key staycation alternative and hire a motorhome and just not go too far.  You never know, you might get the bug and start thinking about buy to let motorhomes as a way of getting a free holiday and earning some cash at the same time.

I was watching Countryfile with John Craven the other week and it got me thinking about how lovely The Jurassic Coast in Dorset is. I remember having quite a memorable night illegally wild camping at Lulworth Cove (note: they really don’t like it!).

If you are interested in motorhome hire or the ‘buy to let motorhomes‘ scheme offered by Motorholme, then pick up the phone and call 0800 612 8719 now and talk to Sheena, Stephen and the crew – there is someone there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

6 Berth Motorhomes

6 berth motorhomes

6 berth motorhomesIf you’re searching for a wonderful, luxurious, top of the line motorhome with all the greatest amenities, look no further than Class A 6 berth motorhomes. The usual Class A motorhome is 30 to 45 feet in length, and can carry about six people at a time, if you pick the correct size and motorhome design.

You’ll be right at ease, from the feel of the beds to luxurious bathrooms! Usually, Class A Motorhomes will show upgraded tile in the kitchen along with real wood cabinetry, porcelain sinks, marble counter tops and recessed lighting. The living area can have a flat screen television, high quality surround sound speakers and high end electronics. No expense will be spared. To get the most efficiency out of the area you’re living in you can also expand it by pushing out the sides.

While new 6 berth motorhomes can be expensive, used Class A 6 berth motorhomes are a wonderful option; they usually have low mileage and the amount of wear and tear is very low. Researching used motorhomes instead of simply purchasing a new one immediately is very rewarding, and although it may take a bit of time, it will be a wonderful discount for your family.

While there are always used 6 berth motorhomes sold by their current owners, you can also go to pre-owned motorhome sales lots to get a much better deal and usually it will have been thoroughly checked out

Rent a Motorhome

Rent a Motorhome

rent-a-motorhomeIt’s getting to one of my favourite times of the year now, Spring.  The clocks go forward next Sunday, which means lighter evenings, which I love. Even the phrase ‘British Summer Time’ makes me feel happy.  So picture this, you decide to rent a motorhome for a week away…you drive off to somewhere pretty and arrive at about 6pm. You have everything you need with you, so you can just pull out the awning, get your picnic table out and make a lovely evening meal in the luxury kitchen of your motorhome. Eating alfresco is always a lovely thing to do, especially when you have a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio in your hand and there is a beautiful sunset.

If you do decide to rent a motorhome, we can’t of course guarantee the weather, but the idea is nice isn’t it?  You can of course increase the probability of a warm summer evening by driving off into Europe and heading for the South of France, the east coast of Spain or Northern Italy.

What I love though is that wherever you start your holiday, your holiday begins there.  You notice straightaway that you are not limited to having expensive motorway service station lunches or making do with a few Tesco sandwiches, some crisps and a bottle of coke.  Instead you can pick a nice spot for lunch anywhere you like and have a chilled out lunch before you climb aboard and finish your journey for that day.  The key is that when you rent a motorhome, you don’t need to be in a rush, take your time.

Read on…

Motorholme have been coming up with some amazing videos about their motorhome franchise deals. Put simply, this means that you buy a ‘ready to rent’ motorhome, with or without finance (if you are loaded!) and then agree to put the motorhome into the self hire scheme that Motorholme operate. By doing this, you in effect set up your own motorhome hire business.  If you watch the video you will see that Steve Moss talks about the fact that they usually find that 1 weeks rental will pay for 1 months finance. Doing the maths on this means that if you just rent out for 12 weeks a year, you get your motorhome for free!  This may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it cerainly is something to think about when you are looking formotorhomes for sale.

Other motorhomes for sale include the bargain range of ex rental motorhomes.  The best thing to do is to give us a call and we can discuss your options.

Motorhomes For Rent

motorhomes for rentIf you are looking for motorhomes to rent in the UK, you won’t get a wider choice than what Motorholme have to offer.  Many customers start their internet search with some idea of roughing it in a an old VDub type 2  ‘hippy van’, but when you start to look into the whole motorhome deal more, you start to see that these marvelous vehicles have toilets, showers, full kitchens, gas central heating, air conditioning and in some cases, satellite navigation.

Motorhome have a network of over 500 motorhomes to rent, spread all over Scotland, England and Wales, so you can be sure that there will always be one in a convenient pick up point for you to start your motorhome holiday. You can either book online or call. Personally I’d favour calling, you get to speak to Sheena and the crew who are there 24/7 to take your call. By using the phone you can discuss your exact requirements, even better if you are in the UK, the call is free.

If this is the first time you have looked at the range of motorhomes to rent, you may like to think about the size. I have a family of 4, but I really like to use a 6 berth for my motorhome holidays. My actual favourite is the Burstner A 747 which is a nice big 7 berth with a garage section to it. The garage bit is great for chucking all the kids stuff in.

Efoy 1600 Fuel Cell Generator

Efoy 1600 Fuel Cell Generator

Efoy Fuel Cell GeneratorThe Efoy Fuel Cell generator is the “must have” accessory for any motorhome owner today. These things are amazing pieces of kit, but, are rather expensive – the price tag is £2995.

So if you want one, Andrew Hughes of Motorholme has decided to give one away. All you have to do is watch the video and answer 3 simple questions (the answers are in the video). This will enter you into the prize draw and you could be the lucky one.

The Efoy Fuel Generator has an output of 1,600 Watts and is the convenient way to satisfy high-energy demand in your motorhome. This is the latest model with improved efficiency, which uses less fuel for the same output.

You can happily enjoy the freedom of quiet, reliable power anywhere, at any time of the day or season and whatever the weather – even if you are a high energy user.

It is worth noting that old fashioned noisy, smelly petrol and diesel generators are banned in the motorhome field of Glastonbury Festival, but these eco-friendly fuel cells are not. This means that you can have mains electricity for the whole time you are at the festival.

Having an Efoy 1600 fuel cell on board your motorhome means you’ll have your own clean electrical power source, whenever you want, wherever you go.

An Efoy fuel cell generator is economical and produces no harmful emissions. The only things that the fuel cell produces besides electricity are water and carbon dioxide in amounts no more than a child’s breath.

All the conveniences of home – even high energy appliances are no longer a problem. Watch the video and win one!

Channel Crossings for Motorhomes

channel crossings for motorhomesUsing the Channel Tunnel or Cross Channel Ferries? Here’s a bit of info you might find useful about Channel Crossings for Motorhomes.

Due to their size motorhomes are often charged quite a substantial premium over cars on ferries and through the Channel Tunnel. All those tempting special offers widely advertised at anything from £20 upwards will say ‘cars only’ somewhere in the small print.

Typical list cross channel ferry prices for high season are £3-400 return for a short crossing and maybe £7-£800 for a return to Spain with a reasonable cabin. Eurotunnel have been very expensive until recently with peak fares in the £5-600+ range. The fierce competition back in early 2004 seems to have brought those fares down to around the £300 mark.

This whole topic is a bit of a thorny one since fares can vary enormously with the booking method and can also be very high compared not only with cars but also against caravans. Even worse the fares have been impossible to fathom in recent years as the ferry companies play strange marketing games with each other sometimes under somewhat concealed identities on the web.

SeaFrance Channel Ferries operate the classic Dover to Calais route which is the shortest crossing there is, which is ideal if you just need to get a ferry to France in the minimum amount of time.

Other than the ferry companies’ own websites some good deals are usually available from the Caravan Club, the Camping and Caravanning Club and the Motorhome Ticket Club. The best deals vary from club to club depending on the routes chosen. Shareholder deals can be attractive too but often pale into insignificance compared with the highly competitive short crossing discounts as above. The longer crossings are not subject to the same fierce competition and are not usually discounted by much, shareholder discounts can be quite significant here.

P&O now pretty much rule as the ‘500 pound gorilla’ in the channel crossings for motorhomesbusiness. However if you are looking at their Portsmouth – Blibao route do read this:

Closure of Portsmouth to Bilbao Route.  Please be aware that P&O Ferries has given notice that it is proposing to withdraw from the Portsmouth-Bilbao route at the end of September 2010 when the charter for the ship it uses for the service, the Pride of Bilbao, comes to an end.

The service will operate as scheduled up to and including the Bilbao-Portsmouth departure on Monday 27th September 2010 and any bookings up to this date will be unaffected. Any customers with bookings beyond this date will be contacted as soon as possible.

Norfolkline concentrate on commercial traffic and seem to charge less for motorhomes – maybe they’re babies compared with the trucks they mostly carry! They operate the Dover to Dunkerque route rather than Dover to Calais. On-board they are pretty much gimmick free, but who cares? Personally this is my favourite company for Channel Crossings for Motorhomes.
